        LOL!

FYI, the 73 label picture I sent you a year or two ago is very, very similar to a 76 label I found this year.

My 30k mile 71 LT-1 convertible still has its original sticker--came off a long time ago, and on its way off, stuck to the tar-like substance at the firewall, and stayed there. The bowtie judges this summer loved it!! Interestingly, the CGZ code has a line under the G only!
It's more of a yellow color than tan, but if Pat has gotten by with tan, more power to him!

I just took the passenger side rocker arm cover off, and changed out with another original one. I have a mint original suffix code sticker for my LS6 still on it.

              FYI
My infomation is from several original 73 Corvettes. The label you had as I recall was found on a valve cover in the Carlisle swap meet. The 76 label may be different but on a 73 the label you sent me will get a deduction until we find that type on an original car. If you have new information on the 73 label send me pic's of the car you found it on.

No new info, just a 76 label added to my information.

However, given the similarities of the two labels as well as the similarities to other mid-70s labels I've seen, I don't know why the 73 I sent you wouldn't be considered "real." It's definitely not a home-made repro, that's for sure. Even though it was found on a valve cover at a swap meet, I don't doubt its authenticity. Too many small things are correct about it.

Send me a pic of a 73 label if you can. I'd be interested in seeing one from your collection.

                  Pat,

When you did this process, do you recall the font size you used on the computer?

                  Thanks,

Sorry Greg, I don't. I think I had a life-size picture of an original, and I experimented with font sizes until it looked pretty close, and in correct proportion to the size of the entire label.

Yes, Terry, you're right. I misread the judging guide. The label is judged. Next question. What kind of glue should I use to attached the label, and what about the exact placement of the label on the rear of the valve cover?

I have no direct experience with glues in this environment. It is obvious that Chevrolet only wanted the label to last through the build process, but we want better. I would use yellow weather strip cement, if I were going to do something like that. Let's see what others suggest.

There is no precise placement. The intent was to easily identify the engine assembly to the St. Louis assemblers. After that it was all over.

FWIW I have seen cars that appeared original with labels on both ends of the passenger side rocker arm cover, and another case with two labels -- one on top of the other. It was not a precise operation by any means.

I use a LOT of different glues for different applications, but I love F-26 for a host of jobs, and that's what I used on my label. It's super tough and durable. It's also tacky and not real wet when dispensed, so it won't stain the paper label.

                            Greg,
Looking at what was shown yesterday as an original, I checked out my type styles and I think Futura Condensed Bold is very close and the size is about 74 points. I printed out a couple to compare to the sample and it's very close. Hope this helps.

Here are two photos of original 71 270 HP stickers. This car has two stickers as Terry mentions. One on the front of the right valve cover and one on the rear of the right valve cover. The one on the rear is completely intact and the front sticker is there but you can only read the K.
