    Chevrolet 3 speed.

I have a Chevrolet 3 speed transmission. I dont know what it is for. I think I bought it for a spare for my 62 Chevrolet truck. The casting number on the tail housing is 3855710 and an E 106. The case is 3834197 and 12 83 . The side cover is 3849534. I dont know if it goes together or a bunch of parts. It appears to have not been apart. Thank you in advance. Dalel

Colvin shows the 4197 main case as used on '64 Corvette (that date code is probably I 28 3), the 5710 tailhousing as used on '65 Corvette, and the 9534 side cover as used on '64-'65 Corvette. Have no clue about truck applications.

John, Could this be a 64 or 65 Corvette 3 speed? I will get the rest of the date codes. Anything else I should look for? Thank you Dale

Does anyone know how many 3 speeds were built in 1964 or 1965. I have Rowleys figures for 1967. M-20+ M-21+ M-22 less total of 1967's built= 201 3 speeds. Is this correct for 1967? Thank you Dale

          Re: Chevrolet 3 speed.

If it was installed on a vehicle at a plant, it should have a stamped VIN derivative.

Also, the Corvette ratio set is 2:47, 1.53, 1.00:1, and this ratio set may have been unique to Corvette.

Subtract the number of all transmission options including M-35 from total vehicle production to determine the number of base three-speeds.

Thank you Duke, I will check for Vin number. If it goes to someones car I would like them to have it as it went to my car I would want it. I will post what I find. Thanks again Dale
