    [quote=Stuart Fox (28060);378797]Mike;

    I knew I could get a rise out of somebody, Ha! How far East does one need to be? I'm down here in Florida and will be over at the winter meet as usual (25 minutes from my house). I would never fall for a 1/4 mile contest, but usually you hot dogs with the 4.56's are so anxious to show me what ya got, you'd fall into my 30 mph and up rolling start (trap). I enjoy just walking away from ya's while you are working up a sweat banging them gears. Like one other poster said; he was 63, but felt 18 behind the wheel of his ride. With me, I'm 69 and feel the same, in fact, I use that as my heart therapy! Nothin gets the blood pumpin better than pulling the red line through the gears. Oh!, I almost forgot. You guys with the 57's don't have a standard tach you can read (lest you got a "Sun" on the column), right?

    Have a good evening Mike. Been fun talking "drive-in" talk with you.
    hey stu, since yer 6 years older than i, i'll spot ya 6 car lengths. look me up at Old Town. you have a good evening too. mike

      Mike;

      You should be here for tomorrow night's "moon shot". The shuttle is scheduled to go up at 7:55 pm and, with hopefully another clear sky and a full moon, it should make for some good pics right from my back porch. Now there's some horsepower! talk about 0 to 60 or even a 1/4 mile, WOW!

        He was old then and impressed us all how fast he could shift.
        Stu they DONT call him The Maryland MISSILE for nothing!! by the way casting numbers sometimes dont tell the truth (inside story). Phil 8063. By the way I got a little silver 67 that goes pretty good, but my driver is a 396 with a 308 rear and a 5 speed, 1st thru 4th the car sees a 456 rear, in 5th its a 308. 80mph at about 2200 rpm.

              Driving my 1965 396 with 4:56 rear is by far the biggest rush I have ever had. Everytime I get it out of hibernation and take it down the block I get goose bumps. It has a smooth as silk original ride (unrestored) and the power is amazing. If your in the neighborhood and the weather is just right drop by and get your own set of goose bumps!

                The best combo I have driven is my 96 LT4. Have never raced anyone, but it does pull really well through the first four gears of the six speed and interstate gas mileage is excellent, best of 30 MPG.

                  Hey Ridge why don't you leave the high gears in it for now. Save the money on the 3.55 's and if you think or get over the hooning and would like to save a bit of fuel for us Aussies you can slip the 3.55's in very easy. But I think you will be having to much fun to pull them out.

                    On an NCRS road tour this fall, we were poking along at 50 mph. I was running 6th gear in a 92. Just for fun, I reset the mileage computer. The average mpg at steady state 50 mph was 39! (As soon as we stopped and accelerated, the average dropped off.)

                      Ok. I just had to get mine into this. I'm 66 going on 18 again also and get my kicks once a year doing this. Engine build courtesy of the Duke's and my son's wisdom and knowledge plus many. many hours of meticulous work. Not too bad for a mostly GM parts 40 over 327 L79 (actually has L82 cam) with 3.55's on street tires. I REALLY enjoyed the run against the 99 viper- one of my slower runs that day.

                          Special 300 HP engine configuration, wide ratio Super T-10 (2.64, 1.75, 1.34, 1.00:1), 3.08 axle.

                          Best of all worlds - smooth 500 RPM idle, excellent low end torque, very docile around town, close to 300 net HP, 6000+ usable revs, mid teens city MPG, 20 highway, 3100 revs cruising at 80.

                          Low to mid fourteens quarter mile on typical bias repro or hard compound radials at about 100 MPH without beating the hell out of it!

                            Now that's a car you can get out of the hole on the little tires and pour it on through the lights. Shift it like ya hate it!

                              You know Duke, I know you are right. Back in my NCCC days. I set a record at that time for classic pure stock. I can't remember exactly the year, but it was I think 1974. It was my bone stock '62 250hp with '68 rally wheels and original for that '68 year, red line tires. I forget the mph but my time was 13.97. Not bad for a 250hp going through 3.36 rear end. The rear tires didn't go up in smoke, it just got all that HP to the ground.
