    source for convertible clamp rubber

    Hi all,
For the clamp to hold the front of the convertible top to the windshield, I see I can buy replacement adjustment screws with rubber bumpers. Has anyone found a source or idea to replace just the rubber part? I hate to replace a good original adjustment screw just for the rubber.
    Thanks,
    Greg

You can use diaphragm material (rubber with nylon cord) or another high durometer rubber material. However, you'll need to obtain these from an industrial supplier like McMaster-Carr or Grainger. Then, you cut out the small discs using a cork-borer or arch punch. Last, glue it on using 3M Super Weatherstrip Cement. However, after you do all this, I think you'll find that it's going to be WAY cheaper just to buy the reproduction screws. I once rebuilt these screws using this method and it worked PERFECT. However, I had access to scraps of the material where I used to work and also had available there a cork-borer and a set of arch punches. So, my cost was minimal.

You can also use any old rubber material you can purchase in a hardware store but it probably won't last too long because it will be too soft.
