    Original 1957-74 heat riser spacer for FI?

    I just finished removing the old incorrect, rusty exhaust pipes from my 59 FI. The heat riser I found connected to the RH exhaust manifold is pictured below, along with an example picture from Corvette Central of the valve they sell.

    Is mine a correct heat riser spacer for my 59 Fuelie? It has a valve inside, which is stuck in the open position and no lever like regular heat risers. Also, the inside diameter is 2". The spacers sold by the parts vendors for 59 have sharper edges and no valve inside. Does anyone know if this is correct or will it at least pass judging?

    As always, thanks for the help!

    I don't know C-1's all that well, but I do know none of them use a butterfly valve heat riser. What you have pictured from CC should be correct. Are all your replacement exhaust pipes 2-1/2"?? I can't say I've ever seen a spacer from any fuelie that was anything other than 2-1/2".

    I'd wait for some C-1 Fuelie owners to confirm this just to be sure.

      The correct spacer has no valve and no holes and is 2" inside.

      I'm not sure about the judging...my '59 FI is many years from that!

        F.I. cars from 57 through used a 2" spacer, 62 through 65 F.I. cars used a 2 1/2" spacer. All carburated motors used a heat riser valve either 2" or 2 1/2" sepending on H.P. Rich

          Ian,
          Your 59 would use just a spacer with no butterfly valve as was the case with all FI cars. . If you intend to have your car judged some day you may want to find an original spacer. The originals have UP embossed on the protruding triangle as there is a certain way these need to be installed. The down side would recieve the "donut" on the header pipe and therefore would have a bevel in the hole. The Up side will be flat across. The judges will look for the UP embossment.

                  OK I didn't think what I had was right and you guys have confirmed that for me. I'm not sure thanks are in order, because that means I'm going to have to hunt one down :P

                  I don't think I've ever seen one come up on eBay. I'll check all the parts houses and see if they have one that matches... Since it was used as late as 1974, I wonder if GM still carries it? hmmm.

                  Thanks very much!

                    Ian;

                    For what it is worth in the vein of trying to be helpful, I just got through grinding out the inner flats of a 2-1/2" spacer that I got from Eckler's and I looked at it close for the "UP" in the casting. It IS there, so if this is a repro, it sure passes the test for me. I suggest you check with your favorite vendor and ask them specifically whether the 2" I.D. piece you seek is available, and whether or not it has the "UP" cast in it. If there are no other identifying numbers or marks, I can't see how it couldn't pass judging.

                      There are some excellent Repro's out there for the FI exhaust spacer. Please note the '57 FI and carb spacers were cast with "TOP" on the not "UP". Gary....

                          Hey Gary,

                          Which vendor would you recommend? The one from CC doesn't look right and I think the one at Paragon is the same... I have a 59...

                              I'm curious about the 62 to 65 2 1/2" F.I. spacer. Does it also have the " UP" symbol or something else? Rich
