    68 Gas Tank Float Removal

Without have a special tool to take the lock ring off after the tank is emptied, can someone explain the best way to take the float out? Do you put pressure on the ring and then turn or just turn it by tapping the tongs on the ring?

there are three "teats" or tabs that you tap on , alternating between the three to keep the ring from going off center. don't ferget to drain the tank first.mike

Mike, the stainer looks like it is fixed to the tube, is it removalable for replacement? I see Pargon does make a replacement.

Just pull it off the pickup tube - it's a friction-fit; the new one just pushes on.

use a brass drift on the tabs not steel as you don't want and sparks with gasoline fumes.

Thanks, all set to put the new tank in. I'll keep you posted in the next few days. Too bad my full time job interfers with the Vetteworks.

Couldn't wait for the weekend. The Quanta tank arrived today and put in in tonight. buttoned everything up and filled her with gas. No leaks. Saved the original tank, cool to see the stenciled numbers on it.
