Re: Water Leak Front Motor Mount 60 Vette

I put a thin coat of #2 on all surfaces or you can put just it on both sides of each gasket.
One aid in assembling is to take some 3 or 4 inch long bolts (same thread as water pump bolts) or use threaded rod, and screw into the block in the top left and right WP bolt holes. Then assemble the gaskets, motor mount and water pump onto the bolts. Put in the bottom 2 bolts, snug but don't tighten, remove the top guide bolts and put in the proper ones. Then align as described by John Hinckley and tighten the WP bolts. Finish by lowering the engine and assembling the motor mounts.
Take a nice ride and enjoy the fruits of your labor.

I had a 61 that every 150-200 miles would leak at the waterpump gaskets, the problem was a very worn clutch pilot bushing, it was causing a vibration you could not feel in the car, replaced the bushing and the problem was fixed.............Thanks JOHN

Yes, a very tricky set up, but so far no leaks!

35 years and only had one leak about 25 years ago. Tightened the bolts and it's been fine ever since. Actually, the only time I've ever heard of this "common" problem is on the internet. None of my C-1 buddies have had this problem.

Had the problem on a 62 fuelie in 1977--15 year old car that was born and raised in California. Never any coolant except from the factory. Rust did ithe bracket in. Have had 35+ C1's since, including the Gulf Racer which created plenty of torque--it never leaked. Only time I've ever had problems was when car had not been properly maintained, and then the fixes prescribed above always worked.

I had a similiar problem. My cure was to have the front motor brace machined flat on both sides and all is well.

Re: Water Leak Front Motor Mount 60 Vette

i have thot about the procedure above for installing the
gaskets, motor mount, and the water pump.

i plan to use the permatex # 2
and do the installation with these changes:

1st is to make sure all gasket surfaces are
                        spotlessly clean!!

then plan to use 4 sawed off bolts instead of two!
so the gasket bottoms will not drift off in any direction

will apply the permatex to both sides of the 1st gasket
and stick it on the engine front and then put in the 4 sawed off bolts

then the mount will go on
then the 2nd gasket w/permatex on both sides

                        then the water pump

while holding the pump in place
i'll put in the water pump bolts one by one

my new mount is on it's way from CS
so will let you know how it goes
