    1970 LT1 Restoration

    Hello all,

I am new to the forum although I have been a NCRS member for a few years.

I am doing a frame-off restoration of my1970 conv. LT1 that I have owned for 20 years; mostly stored. I request information regarding what tires I should put on it. I would like them to attempt to conform to the judging rules to not have point reductions, if possible, but still be good driving tires.

Your suggestions would be well appreciated.

    Thank you,
    Hank Smith

    Hi Hank,
The best thing I can offer is for you to get two sets of wheels. One set is the new bias ply repros mounted on your original rims with original weights on the insides of the rim so they do not interfere with the trim rings. The second set of tires would be mounted on another set of rims. This set gives you lots of choices. The bias ply and modern radials are night and day different. Use the bias ply tires for shows, radials for daily driving.

Unless you have a set of NOS tires on the car you will lose some deduction. The repops will drive OK but we are all used to the radial tire. GOOD LUCK .

Hi Hank! I suggest you search the TDB posts as there are a number of suggestions on brands and sources in the past couple of months.

The only original tire I have is my spare which is on an original rim. Only use it for judging. Take the point deduct and run modern tires---in my opinion the points are not worth the money--just like the battery --you will have to cosider $$$ versus points.
