I believe the father of one of our members on this board was the owner of the dealership in Omaha that the Shriner cars went through..maybe that member will chime in.

As I recall he has a file on these cars.

There has been coverage in the restorer about the Omaha Tangiers Shriner Patrol and their Corvettes in the past. I remember talking with one of the key members of that patrol who is in the pictures that Bill has posted. What I remember most about the conversation I had with him back then was his interest in UFO's!

        Joe,

You are correct, it is GL Anderson, and as I recall this information played a part in exposing a fake L-88 on ebay a few years back. Some joker had a former Shriner car (possibly unbeknown to him) and had converted it to an L-88 complete with (phony) docs.

An article on John will be great! There is still alot of history out there we can document and save. I never tire of learning about our cars, and there are some very interesting and little known things that are really enlightening.

          Thanks for the effort!

Joe -- the member is GL Anderson. Gareth Anderson Chevrolet, in Wahoo Nebraska was the dealer source for these 13 (?) '65s. He's the guy with the horn-rimmed glasses to the right of center.

For more info, here's a link to a DB thread about a year ago, but this time for the 1965 plant delivery. Not as nice a backdrop -- looks like some hotel parking lot .

William, I currently live 15 mi from the arch in IL. How or where could I get copies of those two photos you posted? I have been searching for local pictures like these to hang in my "man room" with all my other Corvette stuff!

Terry: The 70 big block Shriner bronze roadster was owned by Dan Alderson (who is now in Florida); and was sold in about 1997. Sincerely, Mark

Christopher, I saved the pictures to my desk top and plan on getting one of them enlarged and framed for the wall. We have a 65 convertible that was changed to white/black with pipes.

                    Stu,

The arch in the background is not the Gateway arch. It's a new McDonald's restaurant.

Thanks Mark. I couldn't remember, or didn't know, all those details. I knew the car was sold, but that was the end of my chain. I have not seen it back for judging, but that could have happened since I don't make as many meets as I used to. Retirement is a b*&^%.

Ray Kroc did some great promotional gimmicks to get that fledging company to what it is today. Ronald McDonald refused to wear the hat, prefering the clown outfit he is known for today. He was also foolish in the fact that he liked Mustangs better.......

I knew John pretty well, as my Chevrolet Production Engineering Group's activities in the plant were coordinated through him; he doubled as the Plant Planning Coordinator as well as the Chief Inspector. He was followed by Bob Blubaugh, and later by Dale Johnson as Chief Inspectors; when Dale was transferred back to GMAD Central Office in 1980, he bought my house.

Christopher, have the photo up on your monitor, right click it, an save it to a folder ,you will then be able to make at least an 8x10 from the file.
