The L-71 originally used a 14", standard weight flywheel. However, the 12-3/4", 15 pound GM #14085720 can be used on an L-71. It requires changing the bellhousing, starter, and, of course, clutch. Personally, I'd never make that change, but it can be done.
Yup. I worded that incorrectly. I should have said "the 435 originally had the large diameter wheel" instead of "the 435 needs the large diameter wheel".

      Joe,

Actually I think it is the other way around. In looking at the 3955151 MA6 flywheel, there doesn't seem to be a casting void on either side, which the 3992094 does have. The hollowed out section is of course on the engine side, not the clutch side.
I would think that the portion of steel missing from the flywheel would make it lighter.
