Maybe more...you didn't say whether or not the pulley's reinforcement plate was present between the water pump hub and the pulley...

John,

1/16" is a tiny amount and probably not worth messing with the water pump hub unless you are sure it will make a difference. The photo shows one method to check alignment. Since then I've gone high-tech. I have a pencil-sized laser pointer that I sit in the pulley groove and aim down at the crank pulley and sideways at the generator. It is especially useful for the generator, as that has some fore and aft adjustment capability.

There was no reinforcement plate. Was this supposed to be on the 250 hp-327 as well? I did measure the distance from the flange forward to the end of the shaft. The new pump flange is off by about 1/16". Thanks for the photo. If you don't think 1/16" matters I will try to reinstall again this weekend.

John I believe all engines used the reinforcement plate but it changes fore and aft not up and down. Good luck

Yes, the 250hp has the reinforcement plate.
