    C-3 Seat Tracks

Can anyone out there tell me the secret of seperating the Lower (floor) side track from the Upper (seat) side track? I know there's a stop in there, I just don't want to "Bubba" it up trying to get the 2 apart.
    Thanks.

    Re: C-3 Seat Tracks

    Hi Martin,
There was a thread about seat tracks back in June of 2007.
I believe there are some heavy rivets at the ends of the tracks that need to be drilled out to separate the two parts.
I ended up restoring mine with the parts together. I was able to phosphate the 'feet' well enough with out removing the tracks.
My tracks have what I assume is a nice distinct Julian date on them which I've never heard mentioned. My car a 71 was assembled in mid- January, 71.
    Regards,
    Alan

      ALAN-
Interesting picture and info. Thank-you. I've lightly sanded my 4 tracks / adjusters at the same area that you provided the picture from and came up with these numbers; 2 @ 30207 and 2 @ 30219. These do not appear to be dates nor are these part numbers, which should be; L.H. #3996859 and R.H. #342218 as per the AIM and GM parts catalog. Any thoughts? Now I'm stumped.

Most likely those numbers are the supplier's internal part numbers for those detail parts; the GM part numbers in the A.I.M. are for the complete seat adjuster assembly.

Does anyone have a picture of those rivets? I'm pulling my seats today for delivery to the upholstery shop tomorrow. Ideally I would like to refurbish the tracks at home, however. Hence things have to be separated. Like Marty I have a 1974 convertible.

In the absence of a reply here (a Tech Board? Sometimes I wonder) I will let the upholstery shop do their job. The seats were dropped off there this morning.

I did not take the tracks apart. I have a tank I made that is long enough to just put them in the hot phosphate solution. The upper part may have changed color but it is not easy to see so I took the easy way out.

                Marty,
I managed to get the job done. The Meguier's #40 dulls with time but still protects. I can't match the beauty of your 1974 but I am happy with the outcome.

                  PAUL-

Looking fantastic, job well done, hope it didn't set ya back too much. I like your "feet" buckets, where did you get them?
