Re: Bent windshield frame
My wavering faith in my quest for "Vettdom" is renewed my friend.
Just keep in mind though that my fiberglass resurrection is only a (dare I say it?) a driver...... That should push me up through the "B" ranks a tad wouldn't you think there C. Dude?

Re: Bent windshield frame
Hi Chuck.....now you guys are really starting to scare me. Although after 5 days of trying to get a bolt undone on the seat track of my car, my coach in Lyle did mention that this was going to be a really long restoration. At the time I thought that was funny......not so sure now.
Incentive to stay in shape, maintain health and all.......don't think a walker will fit in the trunk.

Re: No luxury of a trunk on a 68 Sandy......but!
I've already started brian bending ways to ramp a Hover Round onto the luggage rackNow wouldn't that be an eye opener?
Many before me have stated it and many before me have poo pooed the snake pits these cars can be.
My simple twenty four month "project driver" has really opened my eyes to the many different forms of debts that can present themselves to the novice restorer. They are as follows,
Money debts, Time debts, Family debts, Mental debts, and the most devastating......divorse debts.
Fortunately I'm already poor, I have no time to spare anyway, I'm a family outcast, I've been brain dead since 1967 and the jury is still out on the big "D" to date.....so I figure I'm good for at least another five years

Re: Bent windshield frame
Ya'll think that you have long term projects, I have one that I bought in 1992. So far I have managed to buy most of the parts needed, but have not done much more that soak the rusted fasteners with penetrating oil. A little larger project that a Vette though, it will scale at about 10,000 poundsor so and has a 600 ci. in.
engine. At the rate I am going I predict that I will be 88 years old (just 25 more years)
before I finally will be able to have someone drive it for me (I probably will be too feeble to climb the running board to get in)

Sandra, more help to you if you are using that old reprobate from the Lyle Merchantile! You are in deep trouble!
He has a habit of losing his car at NCRS meets. Just ask him about that.

Ha! It was my divorce that started me on this project to begin with.....great therapy was the thought
I should have just left off the body and displayed the chassis! Hmmm...I think I just added to the hijacking of my own thread....so anyway, anybody want to stop by and have a "bend the windshield frame" party?- Top

Re: Bent windshield frame
Chuck, Already am most of the things mentioned in your qualifiers.....I'm a professional artist, so most always broke, mostly distracted to the point of insanity, run around the country to shows as though my hair was on fire, and single so don't have to please anyone unless I want to (wait.....may want to retract that statement).
Beginning to think the 'just a driver' is a really swell idea. And mine is such a mess that I can't make it worse. (Go ahead, you may laugh now.)
And Dick.....I have heard stories about lost cars. Mine will stay chained to my wrist when I finally get it to a meet.
I can certainly relate to having the car as a therapy thing, Dave. All my friends think I need a 'hobby'. Should just about push me over the edge.
This also involves buying another house with a shop.....so will really have a head start on the money pit part.
Good Grief.........best, Sandra- Top

Re: Bent windshield frame
I don't think you want to get in that whizzing contest. I bought one of my projects (1937 Cadillac) in 1962, and took it apart a year later. Not quite as large and heavy as yours though. I, however, have come to my senses and am seriously considering moving that one down the road. Note that is only considering ...
Then again, it probably uses technology I know nothing about.

Re: Bent windshield frame
Technology isn't the issue. There is a tricky oil pump/distributor powering system that requires some precision parts, but that is the highest tech part of it. The headlights have two different high beam positions also - I take it accessing headlamp bulbs will be an issue. The body is framed in wood with the sheet metal attached to the wood with a gazillion nails. The doors sound like a bank vault closing. It just needs a good tin knocker to fix the rust. Time and space are the real problems.Terry- Top
