    C2 Temp Gauge Recalibration

Temp gauge on the 65 is reading high, as confirmed with IR gun. I'm using an NOS temp sender GM #1513321, so the temp sender should have the correct factory resistance. I found lots of great information in the archives, but couldn't find a procedure to recalibrate the gauge. I prefer not to use the resistor wire since the car will be judged. So aside from sending it out for calibration, does anyone know how to perform this procedure?

    Thanks!

If your going to Carlisle Joe Ray parts will be there with correctly calibrated temp. sending units.

JR provides another service but he may only do this in his shop in Little Rock. JR tunes the sending unit to the gauge. Meaning he heats the sending unit to specific temperatures, then he adjusts the gauge to reflect what the sending unit is sending. You just need to send him, your gauge and he provides the sending unit and the tuning. Go to his web site and give him a call.

Thanks for the responses. Does anyone know the procedure? I just like doing things myself whenever possible.

Yes, calibration instructions are part of the GM drawing for the temp gauge. Proceedure is as follows:

Connect uncalibrated temp gauge (no pointer needle installed) to a regulated DC power supply of 14.5 VDC +/- 1.5V.

          Ground gauge.

Connect gauge's temp sender terminal through a precision resistor to ground.

Precision resistor characteristics are: 69 ohm initial + 65.7 ohms warm up (after 10 minutes of specified branch circuit current flow).

Install pointer needle onto temp gauge shaft at the gauge's 240F gradicule.

Thanks for the info Jack. That's what I was looking for.

            Thanks!

The AC sending units that you buy have a wide variance in their readings. If Joe Ray has correct sending units, you would be advised to purchase such.

Having the same problem with a C1 temp gauge. Can someone tell me his location( Joe Ray ) in the Carlisle Fair Grounds.
                Thanks Dave
