    Sal,

Here are pics of an original set of front shocks for a 65. They are date coded 97-65.

          Sal -

Delco hasn't made the original-configuration gray shocks for decades, and hasn't manufactured their own shocks for many years; what you'll get today from Delco is a shock made by an aftermarket supplier (like Gabriel or Monroe), painted black, with a Delco sticker on it. Remove the sticker, paint them gray, add the broadcast sticker, and that's about the best you can do; the deduction is minimal.

              Sal:

I agree with John Hinckley that your best option is probably to buy the current Delco replacement shocks for your car, remove the Delco labels, paint them the correct gray, and install reproduction broadcast code labels. This way you get a shock that looks reasonably correct and performs well without costing to much. This is what most folks do.

HOWEVER, if you are going strictly for judging points and dollars are not a primary concern, you can purchase original (used) shocks, or purchase new shocks that have the correct embossed logos and dates codes.

If you want to pursue either of these alternatives, let me know and I will provide details. However, this information is also in the DRIVELINE.

Those are the black-on-white "EK" and "EM" stickers that identified the shocks for the line workers; see "Shocks" in the "Front Suspension" and "Rear Suspension" section of the Chassis chapter in the JG.

                          Sal:

The correct gray paint can be purchased from a number of sources: Long Island Corvette Supply #45-04, Paragon #2682, or Quanta #07-03. About 7-10 dollars a can.

Some people think the Quanta paint has the best color match, but who knows for sure? The Quanta website is http://www.gastanks.com

Any of the three vendors listed above should have an acceptable product.

I used Dupli Color : DE1611 Ford Gray, from the local AutoZone. If you search the archives many have used this with success.
