Yes, we knew, but very few others did at that time. Everyone else thought $22,000 was absolute insanity for a car that needed a complete very expensive restoration. Old GM race cars weren't popular then, especially one that few people even knew about when new.
The 200 MPH speedo was missing the day the car came in to Classic Motors. I don't remember where it's replacement came from although I would guess a standard speedo was rescreened and turned into a 200 MPH unit.
I'll post a pic of the instrument cluster later that shows the empty hole where the 200 MPH speedo would have been. Still had the unique "oil temp" guage though.
I definitely remember the Bill Mitchell "styling" car. That was my demo for a few weeks. Gomer found that car in Louisville, KY, owned by a guy that had NO idea what it was. I think he bought it for around $4,000.
I think I drove it to Bloomington some time in the late 70's and no one knew what it was.
