I did phone interviews with all those guys when I was researching and restoring the car back in the 80's. LaRoche also did a fair amount of body repair work on the cars. He said "we took a mold off the other 62, glued it together, painted it white, and went racing the next weekend with it."
They were all great guys with a love for the cars.
i knew these guys on a personal bases and you are correct. joe even had to do a on the spot fiberglass repair the gulf plane after it hit a large bird in the air and could not return to pittsburgh till the repair was made. most all of these guys are gone but ron is still living in calif. were he went to work after gulf closed here in pittsburgh. we used to go up to the gulf labs at night to break in our race cars on the chassis dynos. i don't know if grady knew this.

      Re: 1962 Gulf Oil car

After reading the 62 Gulf Oil Racer posts I noticed mention of 61, 62 and 63 Model Year Gulf Oil Cars. Grady Davis also purchased three 64 Coupes from Yenko Chevrolet including my own SPEC paint code car here in England. Anyone know where the other two 64s may be?

      Regards

      Steve

The car sold for $1,350,000 before buyers premium.

That is so cool! I was lucky enough to see it when Mike was just uncovering the 'filled in' gas tank holes and exhaust cut outs etc. Mike did such a job of tracking down the original history and parts for that car! He saved a piece of history.
