What goes underneath the A pillar stainless/window foam weatherstripping. I removed 3 screws to get the WS and stainless off. What is underneath is real cruddy like clay. Is it adhesive or is there a part that seals it to the windshield frame? I suppose if you never drove it in the rain you could skip this. Thanks.

Re: A-pillar stainless to windshield frame WS
Hi Charles,
On my 71 I found only very thick, sticky, black sealer, that is very similar to the 3M strip-calk, #08578, that is sold many places now, under the A- pillar SS trim. I did find a thin, sticky, black foam strip seal beween the 2 SS parts that make up the A-pillar trim.
In regards to the clay like material, I found a chalky gray material that looked like it had come out of caulking-gun under the upper windshield header SS trim, but not under the A-pillar trim .
Regards,

Re: A-pillar stainless to windshield frame WS
Yes, thats the same stuff. Nearly 40 years old and still sticky. It was flat and regular shaped, but came off in chunks, and could have been a gasket at one time. Hard to say. I will put a bead of 3M black weather strip adh. in there unless anyone has any better ideas. Thanks.- Top
