    C2 Tire size

I would like to go with the Michelin Symmetry because of the white wall. They don't make a p205/75 which is what have now. They make a 205/70 & wondered what you guys have to say about it. I don't have clearance issues now but it is close so I don't want to go 215/75 which they do make. Also had a rcommendation on Uniroyal tigerpaw & Toyo Spectrum so please comment on those brands.

    Thanks!

215/75R-15 is not a size I would recommend, but 215/70R-15 is; 205/70R-15 is not a good revs/mile match.

Tires, like motor oil, are basically generic - built to a comprehesive set of industry/DOT standards. Brand/model mean little. Speed rating and UTQG is what you should use to evaluate tires.

...lot's of achive info on the subject.

Sorry Duke, I meant 215/70 is what I meant. I drive this car conservatively with an occasional stomping. I know you like the Pirelli's. Do you think the 215/70 is ok?

A 215/70 is okay for all OE C2 wheels, but 6" are best.

Regardless of how you drive the construction of "H" and higher speed rated tires is a considerable safety benefit. I would not consider anything less than an H-rated tire on any car I own.

          Thanks again Duke,

These are S rated and I can get the Uniroyal in a 205/75 white wall.

I have knock-offs by the way.

          Regards.

I just put a set of Uniroyal Tiger Paw 215/70-15 on my unhit,body-never-off 66 roadster and they fit very well except for a very very slight rubbing on the frame when I turn the steering hard to the stop. The tires look nice, are quiet and smooth. I recommend them.

              Bill,
Can you post a picture of what they look like?

Hey Duke --- I've got an old Goodyear FR78-15 Steel Belted Radial 'Custom Tread' whitewall with 90% remaining rubber. What current tire might be closest to a revs/mile and width match ?

                    Dave,

I just saw them at my dealer. The sidewall isn't unattractive like some that I've seen and the ww is a between 5/8 & 3/4 wide which I think looks perfect. Getting them put on next week.

I don't have a revs/mile figure or dimensional data for FR78-15, but my guess is a 205/75R-15 is a good match. If it's mounted and inflated you can measure the circumference and section width, then compute the inflated OD and compare to tire specs that you can find at The Tire Rack and mfgs. Web sites. Remember that for any size, past or present the range of acceptable dimensions are in a narrow range promulgated by the Tire and Rim Assc.

As you may recall, in that obsolete alphanumeric size scheme the first letter represented the load capacity, R was "radial" and "78" was the approximate aspect ratio.
