Re: Courious who runs C1/C2 1/4 mile "Oldies Day"
Took mine up to Bandimere L-79 350hp tweaked for altitude. 3:70 Posi, M-21 Street BFG's. After a "poor" smokey burnout hooked up got 13.81 Not bad for small block. Our 67 SS 396 Chevelle did mid 12's. Nothing like a torquee' BB.- Top

Our local NCCC club does bracket drags. I'm driving the black '92, but some bring out the oldies...Attached Files- Top

Stanley,
Hate to call on you ole boy, but there appears to be a small discrepancy with your times.
In you note you say "best so far 13.06 @ 105 MPH"
But in your signature area you say "13.03 @ 105 MPH"
In the life of a nat, that's a big difference.....So which one is correct?

Re: Courious who runs C1/C2 1/4 mile "Oldies Day"
Stanley,
When do they hold those oldie races, I raced my Corvette there in the early 70's it wasn't very fast but it sure was fun. Back then it had a 307 with a powerglide turned in the low sixteen's, I still have the time slips to prove my statement.
It was in the X/Stock bracket just a little faster than a turtle.
I might take a ride up there to watch, its been a long tiime.
Thanks

Re: Courious who runs C1/C2 1/4 mile "Oldies Day"
Stan,
No need to be sorry, I'm was just bustin on you a bit.
Those times are very impressive. I miss my days going to the drags. Maybe some day in the near future, as they are building the Charlotte / Lowes dray way about 2 hours away. There's also Rockingham here in our area, but I'm also a bit nervous with some of the 'OLD' original parts still surviving.....
Have a great day,

Re: Courious who runs C1/C2 1/4 mile "Oldies Day"
Dave........ the first time I took my 66 to NE Dragway on oldies day I didnt intend to run the 1/4 mile ...... they have a hot rod & oldies car show at the same time , put on by the orientals car club .......... a owner of a 73 Vette said to me you should run the 1/4 , its fun .........so i did 13. 51 ....... they ( track ) wouldnt let me run again as i didnt have a helmit......... a few months later ran 13.33 @ was told you need a roll bar or hard top ,,,,,,,,,so bought a hard top ......... have said to a few guys at the show run your car, its a great experience .... .but except for the guy with the 73 & a 61 or 62 ............not many vintage vettes run except for a few that are dedicated drag cars........ i dont do it to win a race , but for the fun of it ......I have never gone over 5700 RPM & so nothing has broke..........the drag slicks i got have made a world of diference....just got a set of knockoffs & BF Goodrich G sport tires..next time , think its October will do it again but without the slicks .the g sport have tremendous traction .......- Top

Re: Courious who runs C1/C2 1/4 mile "Oldies Day"
Stan,
About a 150 years ago I used to run at the Colchester drag way in Connecticut. Not even sure if it's still there.
Anyway, I ran my '69 GTO once with a set of 11" M&H drag slicks. One run friends said I pulled one front tire a bit off the ground and another time I twisted a rear axle very badly. It was more than likely over the course of several runs.
Ahhh, the good ole days. When gas was $0.32 a gallon.- Top

Re: Courious who runs C1/C2 1/4 mile "Oldies Day"
Hi David,
I went to Connecticut Dragway in the late 60's early 70's just about every weekend, a friend of mine ran a D/Gas 52 Chevy.
I have quite a few pictures from 69, 70, 71 at Connecticut.
According to the internet the track is still there but it is used for testing by Consumer Reports.
Fun times back then.

Re: Courious who runs C1/C2 1/4 mile "Oldies Day"
Mike,
I only went down there with friends a couple times a year, but during the same time period (69-Feb 71) before I did 6 years in the service. We used to just run our stock vehicles. Nothing elaborate, but ohhhhh what fun days.
If you weren't running, you were wrenching on your car or a friends car. It always seemed like we were in a panic to make some last minute changes. Tires, new plugs, fiddling with the distributor, gas mixtures......
Yea, Like we knew what we were really doing. But we did have some really good times, and I guess through it all we did learn some things by trial and error.
Only mods I remember that were required by the race track was a helmet and a drive shaft hanger. I also remember never washing off the white designator markings in the window. It was almost like a medal or trophy just to let others know 'You ran at the drags'. That was until Mom saw, and then it was an immediate car wash, and scolding.
Good times,
