Stan, The guy running the red 62 (used to be primer) is Dave Curtis. He is a long time NCRS member and lives here on the Cape. I think he has that bad boy down in the low 10's with a stroked (406) small block. He also owns a 61 fuellie that belonged to his brother who, unfortunately, was killed in Viet Nam. The 62 still sports an NCRS sticker.

        What size drag radials?
        235 50R-15 (not available) will make a 3.70 a 4.11.

I tool my 1972 LT-1 with a 4.11 rear end to Raceway park in 2005 for the Vette show and corvette only racing day. My best time was 14.6 on stock BF Goodrich Radials wit an 1/4 mile time of 95.22MPH. To my surprise the track selected me as the favorite car that raced at Englishtown,NJ that day. The trophy was three feet high and a challenge to get home. They also used my car on the flyer for 2006. This event is hosted by Corvette Express every year and they do a fantastic job of running the event. The 2008 event is this Saturday August 2 but my days of racing the car are over since I received a Top Flight award at the National Convention last year. This car was purchased for the 1/4 mile and it was the most fun I ever had. I still put almost 2,000 miles a year on the car driving it which is what these cars were meant to do.

Re: Courious who runs C1/C2 1/4 mile "Oldies Day"

I have been racing my completely stock '60 290 hp FI for well over 20 years. It is truly stock, even standard bore (CE block) and I have had to prove that. After setting the NCCC National Drag Record you must go through tear down and pull the injection and a head. I have done this three times over the years and my best time is a 15.02 with small radials and 4:56 gears.

I communicated with Dr Mike and Dennis (Dipstick) in the early late 80s or early 90s when they were "grudge racing" their FI 57s. They were turning much better times than me and I was curious. I still have their entertaining replies saying their car was completely stock but the other guys was not. It is safe to say neither could have survived a tear down but it was great fun. Don H.

Our local NCCC club does bracket drags. I'm driving the black '92, but some bring out the oldies...
Back in the mid 1970's I had a stock 1960 Corvette with an LT-1 350 in it. Headers, Uniroyal Tiger Paw 60 SS tires, 350 turbo automatic trans. I ran it a lot at Orange County International Raceway's Wednesday night bracket race if I had my homework done. It ran a best of 13.15 at 106 miles per hour. Typically it ran 13.20's to 13.30's at 102 to 105 miles per hour with a 4.11 posi rear end.

One day I thought I would try to break into the 12's so I put a 4.88 rear gear in it. It spun the tires and slowed down 3/4 of a second and wouldn't even go 100 miles per hour. No 60 foot times back then. After using almost 1/2 tank of gas to go 40 miles to and from OCIR with the 4.88's I took them out. If I remember correctly with the 4.88's, 65 miles per hour on the 5 Freeway equalled 3,100 RPM on the tach.
