Re: While the wife is away, part 2

    Patrick,
I think I would use the term 'working on my Corvette' pretty loosely....don't know enough about it to be really serious yet, but did used to do all the mechanics on a 1970's GMC pickup that I drag raced like it was a religion. It could blow the doors off all comers and I had a blast with it.
Been competively shooting since 10 yrs old.....started with 22's, then M-1 Gerands, police pistol matches with a 38 cal. S&W, now exclusively cap and ball black powder, notably a Pedersole 45 cal. English dueling pistol, 50 cal. Thompson Hawken rifle, and a custom made 50 cal. rifle. After putting 1000's of rounds through these guns, I had to learn how to smith them, pour my own lead balls, etc. (Insides do wear out.)
Have a younger sister.....she doesn't know a Johnson brattwurst from a bale of hay. City girl.
    Cheers, Sandra

Does this really work? I might be in the market for another project car...

Now today I learned from Duke I also have to put my Shell Rotella 15W-40 up there due it's shelf life in our hot/humid climate. Guess I'll put my new case of TEL up there too. Wife hasn't complained yet (doesn't know), but she may not like my throwing out a box or two of old family pictures - ya think?

Stu, I didn't see Dukes post on the Shell Rotella shelf life. Didn't know oil had a shell life. I will tell you though the weather in SW corner of PA is no better right now that the swamp. Very hot and hi-humidity. Stormy too.
Just remember you can always get a new wife but the 63 is not replaceable. John D

With all of this twisted thinking, I now know why I'm part of this group!

          Cheers,
Mike, Yes you are 100% correct. It also proves there really is a God.
If you really want to bake the parts fast use a convention oven. JD

The shelf life of automotive lubricants is discussed in the "lubricants.s5" Web reference in the engine oil article.

I encourage all to look at all the Web references.

If you go to my recent "hot links" thread, you will be able to go directly to them without having to type in the URLs.

it is a strange dance that we have to do. mid year # 3 came because i added room on the house #2 because i got a new job and # 1 was there before she was. it all took 20 years.

HaHaHaHa(ROFL)... She has a keen sense of humor too, Patrick.

The Garand's 30-06 Springfield is a butt-kickin' round for gals...some guys too. You probably reloaded with those 183 grain optimum tournament bullets.

Black powder...that explains the "rust remover". I was thinkin' if you're needing "rust remover", you ain't oiling yer guns often enough.

Sandra, I think you are the reincarnation of an Alaskan pioneer woman...or maybe a real Texan gal (not one of them city-slicker gals from the Metroplex, or The Big H.

                  Hi Chuck,
The M-1 had some punch, but the shooting I'm really partial to is long distance black powder...referred to out here as long gong shooting. I've worked my way up to 420 yards offhand, iron sights, 180-195 grains of powder and can hit a target about 6x18" 9 times out of 10.
The motto amongst the shootists in my family was "friends and family stop at the firing line". We would cheerfuly kick your butt and then rib you without mercy. All in good fun, of course.
The rusty guns came from rehabing a few for people that didn't know how to take care them.
You guys probably can't relate to this, but I noticed at about 8 years old that the guys were having all the fun, while the women spent the whole day in the kitchen cooking.
So with the help of Dad and all his brothers, they made sure I learned anything I took an interest in. What a life! (But didn't get too domesticated.)
                  Cheers, Sandra

Heavens...You would put most of those male big game hunters/sportsmen equipped with the latest fancy Weatherby rifles, Leupold scopes, range finders, etc. to shame!

Open sights haven't been an option for me for a long time...unless it was hunting Grackels at 20 feet with my air rifle.

                    You go, girl!
