Back in March-April Mobil had a $3/gal. rebate on Delvac, and I bought four gallons (15W-40 CJ-4) at Walmart for $9.12 per gallon plus sales tax.
I was beginning to wonder if the check would show up
, but got it today.
(Gee, that will buy about 2.7 gallons of regular unleaded in Southern California.
)
The first couple of gallons I bought in early April had a yellow sticker announcing the rebate in effect from 3/1 to 4/30/08. I bought two gallons then and two more just before the rebate deal ended at the end of April. These jugs did not have the yellow rebate offer sticker, but it was still in effect on the date of purchase, so I got the additional six bucks.
Keep an eye out for rebate offers on C-category oil when you visit an auto parts or big box store and let us know.
The API service categories listed on the API "donut" are CJ-4, CI-4 Plus, CI-4, CF-2/SM. That pretty much filled up the space in the donut, so there was a line of API service categories listed below the donut as follows:
CJ-4, CI-4 Plus, CI-4, CH-4, CF-2, CF/SM, SL,
followed by more lines of non-API categories - ACEA E8 and E7 (for you guys "down under" and "across the pond"), and a bunch of manufacturer's specifications from Cat, Cummins, Mercedes, Detroit Diesel, Mack, and Volvo.
Wow! That's quite a mouthful. This stuff will work for my vintage Corvette, my vintage superbike, my big rig, my farm tractor, my yacht with the dual 6-71 Jimmys, and my vintage EMD GP9 locomotive - everything except for my new C6 and my P-51 and F-86.
If you read The Corvette Restorer, you now know there is no need to be confused by all the additional service categories.
The one that really counts is the first listed, and if it's CJ-4 or CI-4, it's the best oil for your vintage Corvette that money can buy!
