I have a 63 FI 4 speed, Is there a switch that came on 4 speeds so the car would not start in gear? Did they only come on automatics? or only on some cars? Is it also called reverse lock out? I'm lost, can't seem to find anything on this. Gary.

Gary,
Usually the Neutral Safety Switch is for automatic equipped cars.
As to the Reverse Lock out, if you have the stock shifter, it should have a "T" handle below the Shifter ball. When lifted, it will allow you to move the shifter to reverse gear, thus preventing accidentally going into reverse while moving through the forward gears.

The neutral saftey switch on my 72 four speed will not allow the motor to crank without depressing the clutch petal and is located on upper leg of the clutch linkage. The reverse lockout has a cable connected to the reverse lever on the trans to the steering column, with the shifter in reverse it locks the steering column and allows you to remove the key. Not sure if your 63 would be the same, maybe someone else can help?

That would be correct as all ignition switches moved from the dash to the steering column that year for GM cars.

I should have noted that in my first response for the neutral safety switch would be for '68 and older models. And that as to the reverse lockout would be for 4spds with the stock shifter.
