    Re: Bloomington Gold & L-88's

There is a Corvette car and parts seller in Bedford, PA who has a complete L-88 engine on Ebay. It looks like the real thing. Any opinions??
    It is Ebay #330247532446

Seller of motor was listed as co-owner of 1968 L88 racecar that sold at Bloomington auction lot S-6 for $220k.
Motor looks good to me from pics.

GM was still selling crate L/88 engines in the '80's. The statement that only 80 engines were made is slightly incorrect. 80 '68 cars, but many motors. With that said, there is a possibility that engine is real. Would take a up close and personal inspection.

One of the best if not the best special collection ever at BG.
Ive had a car twice in the special collection but these cars were
awsome. The presentation was terrific and the film was
inspiring. Great job to Bill Locke and his staff.
I will be looking forward to next years presentation.

Dave Borror took this video of the L-88 entering the Bloomington Show on Saturday, June 28th.

Dave is presently not available to post, but I am sure he would want all to enjoy viewing.

Thanks for sharing that video link. About the 1967 coupe painted in racing colors and proudly wearing #9. Does anybody know it's history. Real deal? Restored, or made from parts. Thanks in advance, Ridge.

It's the first time I ever saw car #8 and #9 in the same place.

                  Dick Guldstrand was driving it.

I agree with Dicks estimate that waaay less than 50% of the remaining L88s have their original drivetriains, in fact I would guess it is closer to 25%. Now factor in how many have virgin bodys, frames etc. mostly original components and the percentage falls much lower. Here is a pic of my car that I am lucky enough to own.

That was all that was left. Years ago I know of maybe 5 or 6 that were flared so there goes all four quarters. And then you have the real nice, low mile cars that were never enjoyed for what they were. The car I had came to a neighbor, 3 doors down from my parents house. It was flared, had the GM/Kustom headers and sidepipes, painted the Stars and Bars scheme. He pulled the original engine out and sent it to Jr. Johnson's race shop to be built. So there went that motor.

Interesting thing is that he had a ZL-1 also. Do not know if it was real or made. He ran a few races with that car. Tried NASCAR also. Quite a character.

THEIR was a nice 69 red conv. with original paint at THE SPECIAL COLLECTION , its nice to see any car with original paint , but a L88 is not easy to find that way

I think their is only 4 red conv. and 8 red coupe accounted for in 69

The #9 67 coupe L88, isn't that the DX car that Richard Prince restored back in the late 80's early 90's? It sure looks like the one he had at Springfield in 1993, and had a few minutes to speak with him. I thought I read a story around 1992 or early 93 about that car being re-bodied at one time. Anybody confirm that?

                              Robert,
You are correct it is the same car that Richard Prince once owned. I am pretty sure that most of its fiberglass is not original to the car as well.

I just checked something, and now I believe Richard Prince had the #8 DX car. I can't seem to find my photos from Springfield that year. Maybe some one here will straighten me out.
