    Bloomington Gold & L-88's

Had a hellva good time at the GOLD yesterday for about 4 hours in between the rain. 56 L-88's were there, mostly all C-3's. They offered a nice little booklet with info. about all the cars. The only sad thing about the booklet is that the pictures were in B&W instead of color.

Checked in at our NCRS booth and got the chance to meet and chat with the president of our Australian chapter, interesting fellow.

    Good Day....Marty

The L-88 collection was pretty great. On Thursday night when they unveiled the special collection they also had a neat film about the l-88s. Very well done. It was well worth seeing that piece of Corvette history in one place.

That is a funny statement, since MOST of the L88's total produced were c-3's.

But really based on production percentage - IMO, most of the L88's attending were C2s.
11 of the 20 1967 produced were in the display at BG.
That is OVER 50% of the production.

      The display was absolutely fantastic.

I'd be curious to know how many of those L-88's were driven to the event?

I had a great time being part of the show! I wish that I had someone video taping the cars driving through Sat afternoon.

I wonder how one would go about finding that out? I would imagine "0" were driven unless they lived in St. Charles.

Of the real cars, I sure that that number would be less than 1

You might be surprised. There is a lot of money in the Chicago area and a lot of wealthy collectors there, and in the immediate tri-state area. Even a number of BG brass live close by.

Hey Dick your an old L88 guy . How many real L88s do think still have their orig. body, frame & engine (drive train). And how many cars do you think were built from a "found" title, tag or block ? Bill

None. We spent 2 days wiping the drool off the floor. Next year will the the 25th and will be the best of the best that have been there. Can't wait, already have hotel reservations.

Bloomington was GREAT this year. The L88's were awesome! The 2nd picture was taken at my swap spot around 6AM.

Bill I would venture to guess that way than less half have their original engine. I know of one that was built from a gas tank with a sticker and the J-56 calipers. That was all that was left. Years ago I know of maybe 5 or 6 that were flared so there goes all four quarters. And then you have the real nice, low mile cars that were never enjoyed for what they were. The car I had came to a neighbor, 3 doors down from my parents house. It was flared, had the GM/Kustom headers and sidepipes, painted the Stars and Bars scheme. He pulled the original engine out and sent it to Jr. Johnson's race shop to be built. So there went that motor.

Interesting thing is that he had a ZL-1 also. Do not know if it was real or made. He ran a few races with that car. Tried NASCAR also. Quite a character.

Sales were very good! Did not expect it. I thought the crowds were up a little and I thought that there were a few more vendors than in the past. But I don't get, to get out and walk around much.
To see 25% (56) of all the L88s in one place is something I will not soon forget.

I'm glad sales were good for you, with the econmy the way it is, well, you know. I was going to stop and introduce myself but bro wanted to leave after we got rained on the second time. Were you there last year? I usually go on Sat. with my wife but this year I went Friday afternoon with my little brother (he'd never been before) and was totally blown away with the L-88's. The gentleman that was with the 69 black / black coupe let us over the ropes, opened the hood and let our cameras fly, it was awesome.
