I just received a newly rebuilt carb from a vendor for my '61, 283/230, 12/7/60 build. There are a couple of things I can't figure out. One is that on the back of the carb (distributor side) of the thick black mounting plate there is a threaded female inlet that I am not certain what is is for. Secondly, I have tried to check the numbers against the NCRS Judging book. The Airhorn number matches up (6-1396), but the number on the Throttle plate is 0-1241. If I am reading the book correctly it should be 0-1343. Is there somewhere else I need to be looking for numbers? Any thoughts or comments would be appreciated.

Re: '61 Carter Carb
Richard,
The hole is for a vacuum fitting. Your car should have the hollow left rear carburetor stud where your vacuum line goes, so you can use a hex plug to fill the hole.
I'm not sure what an 0-1241 goes to, but it doesn't seem to be a Corvette application and certainly not for your car. If the rebuilt carb was yours, maybe it already had a replacement piece on it. If you bought it and they said it was the right one for your car, they should correct that.

Bob:
I was afraid of that. It was not a rebuild of mine. I bought it from Alf @ Chicago Corvettes, who looks like bought it from Custom Rebult Carbs in NJ. I gave them all of the specs for my car but it looks like they missed it. I sure hope they stand behind it.- Top

Good luck, It might be possible to give more information if you had stated the part number of the carb you thought you were buying.Bill Clupper #618- Top
