i recently removed the crank case ventilator tube on my 65/300hp, is the filter inside still available and is there anything inside the orifice in the block?

I don't know of any filter that was ever used in connection with the crankcase ventilator tube or crankcase ventilation system on a 1965.

There is nothing inside the orifice in the block. However, there is a crankcase ventilator oil separator mounted in the lifter valley and to which the ventilator tube effectively connects.

Here's the oil separator can in the lifter valley - it just has a couple of baffles inside it; as Joe noted, there are no filters of any kind in the crankcase vent hole in the block or in the adapter tube that connects to the air cleaner base.

inside the vertical portion of the tube assembly i found what looks like a fine mesh brillo pad, also in the opening, floating in oil, was a nylon grommet. i thought it might be a gasket but it does'nt fit any opening.
