Re: A/C Rebuild Vendor in Florida ?

    Thanks Larry,
I'm learning alot here. I had the original dryer rebuilt also. I don't know if they add any oil to a rebuilt dryed or not. If they didn't, then I feel better about adding the 2 oz. of oil. Would they normally add in some oil when they rebuild the dryer? I believe I had it rebuild by Classic Auto Air when I had the compressor rebuild. Would you not recommend adding the oil in the low pressure side of the compressor, but adding it in at the STV valve?

      Gary:

I would call Classic Auto Air and ask them if they added oil to the receiver/drier? I do not think they would, but would rely on you or your service technician to do this. New receiver/driers do not come with oil.

Did they supply you with the oil when they rebuilt the compressor? If so, what did they supply? R12 systems typically use 525 SUS viscosity mineral oil, but if they supplied the oil, they may have used something slightly different. The 2 oz R12 oil charge in the can that you have is 525 SUS mineral oil; and you want to be sure what you have in your AC system and that everything is the same or is compatible. If you don't know for sure, call them and ask.

I mentioned adding oil into the POA valve connection, since that is what I have on my 1967 car. You have the older STV valve, which is similar. Yes, add the oil at the STV valve connection, but do it VERY SLOWLY so that a slug of oil DOES NOT go through your compressor. It would be like starting a fuel injected car with hydraulic lock from backup of gasoline. Not a pretty picture. Ask the fuel guys. You do not want to try and pump liquid with a vapor compressor.

Larry and Richard, thanks for the tool information. Auto Zone has some of these as tools you can borrow, it would be nice to have my own though. I have only one A6 compressor to replace the front seal, it is now 38 years old.
