I have ordered two horn relays that were supposedly for a 1971 corvette--both have metal base not plastic like my original. Where can you purchase this relay. Metal cover with four letters on it. Thanks Paul

Hi Paul,
Have you tried Dr. Rebuild. The drawing (which he does) looks like it has a black plastic base. Page 183, Item M. I believe you can return his electrical parts if you don't open the plastic pouch.

You need to find an OLD NOS GM #1115889 relay (like I say, an OLD one because not all of these are configured exactly the same) or look to find a used example from some other 1971 GM car. These were used on other GM cars besides Corvette. In Appreciation of John Hinckley- Top

Type the part number in Google.
I found many of them.
Or, buy one from Standard Parts and install your original Delco cover (the top of the relay) onto it.Vice-Chairman (West), Michigan Chapter NCRS

Yes, one can transfer the cover. However, I believe that the current GM part, aftermarket equivalents, and even later examples of the original part number have a different configuration for the base section. So, if one is after 100% originality, I don't think one will "get there" this way.
If one is just after a FUNCTIONAL replacement, no problem: GM #12339248. About 94 bucks, GM list.In Appreciation of John Hinckley- Top

I'd go check the configuration, but the cars aren't at my house.

Paul, I have seen a lot of those pop up on eBay for '71s because I keep an eye out for the '70 889. I usually set up a Search and eBay emails me the item numbers as they pop up. I can alert you if you want me to. ss396t6@sbcglobal.net- Top
