      Pat,
Nice looking label! AND, a good description of how you were able to do your part for an authentic look.

FYI - Both Corvette Central and Paragon list this label in their "Decal Section" with a note that you are to use a typewriter to complete the info needed.
Their pricing is a bit less than that E-bay ad.

In comparing Pat's to the reproduction I have I can clearly see the differences. The text on mine appears to be in bold and the number characteristics are quite different. Pat's is a great to use an example of being most correct.

            Re: Blue Certification Label

The blue labels are sold as being the same for all years but if you look at all years with the weights on them compared to all other years labels with a VIN I see a difference in the font, color and line width.
I cut an original label off with a razor blade cutting the paint and not the label. I ordered a replacement but it was not close to the original so I reused the original with a little condition problem.
Some members have spent lots of hours studying just this one item.

No disrespect to Pat, but it would be better to use a picture of an original if you are trying to duplicate it. Making a replica of a reproduction will only lead you to a poor result.

Note that the GVW and PASSENGER CAR did not appear until January 1972. Before that there was only the build date and the VIN.

My original looked like Roys label pictured above. How could you get all those numbers to look so mixed in size? The GM in the corner and the square box around if is a good place to look for signs of a reproduction.

Lyle, there are fonts that mix the size intentionally.I would show you some, but this software limits you to a few fonts

I ordered one from ECS automotive. I will post a picture of it when I receive it. All the experts/judges can give their opinion of how authentic it looks. I would like to thank everyone for their input.

                          Paul
If you could find a VIN close to yours with an original label and get a picture I'm sure you would be a good judge in a side by side look for the things that are not the same if any.
I took pictures of original labels when you got printed off film and would have them with me if I judged that area. As others have said you see just about everything used to make this label and with the VIN on it usally the seller likes to fly under the radar because lots of questions have came up about how legal it is to make them.

                            Re: Blue Certification Label

There is only one legal (GM licenced) manufacturer of the GM blue certification labels, Dobins. The "Dobins label" unfortuately is incorrect and will recieve a major deduction( color to Dark, fonts wrong, plcement of lettering wrong, vin typed in.)
                            The only way to get a correct looking label is to make one yourself. I have made a few and it is not the easiest thing to do. Here's a quick how to;
                            1. Photograph a bunch of labels off doors at any NCRS meet/s. hopefully getting all the lettering sharp and all #s from #1 to #0.
                            2. print the photos larger than the original. Find one good example for the correct blue color.
                            3. make sure you measure the exact size label and larger clear overlay.
                            4. Take your photo's,your vin # and your camera card to a good photo, graphic art lab.
                            5. Set down with one of the creative computer guys and show them what you're after. They will be able to put together your vin, build date etc. on a finished label on their computer. They then send the example to their photo printer and print out several labels for you.
                            6. You have to cut the label out of the photo paper including the rounded corners. (there are little machines that cut the corners , my lab has one)
                            7. Now the important part; with a single edge blade separate the top emusion from the bottom paper layer of the photo and peel it off (it comes off) This is why you make more than one! The final is a decal-thin label.
                            8. Cut the clear overlay to size (this is a clear peal-off acetate w/adhesive on one side.
                            9. Use a good spray adhesive on the back of the label and press on the door end (see your photos for location)Carefully, place clear overlay over the top and smooth out. That's it! good luck
