63 water pump bolts

    63 water pump bolts

    I'm helping a friend restore his '63 coupe. Can someone tell me if all of the water pump bolts are painted engine color?

      Yes, they were painted with the engine. However, I don't think that the upper, right side bolt (the one that also retains the alternator brace) was painted. I believe it was installed at St. Louis.

              Actually Joe, the alternator bracket bolt was painted as it was part of the engine assembly as shipped and removed at St. Louis and reinstalled for the bracket retention. See AIM, UPC 6 sheet A2, which is for 1965, but I'm sure it applies to most years where this applies.

                  The 63 MY was slightly different than 65. At the St Louis plant, the existing water pump bolt was pitched and a new bolt and washer were used when the alternator brace was installed so there should be no orange paint on it.

                  I don't remember when this process changed and the original orange painted bolt was reused. Does the 65 AIM show that a lock washer was added? If so, that would be unpainted.

                      Michale, Since I don't have a 63 AIM to verify,I assume that I stand corrected on the 63s. The 65 AIM does show the bolt and washer as part of the engine assembly as shipped so they would have been painted.
