But it isn't observable. Same as head casting dates, etc.

Would I be correct in saying that some cars had no tank sheet and others had sheets from other cars.

This combination of facts would make a tank sheet nearly impossible to judge. JMO.

      Interesting poll though.

Non judged item in any class, so it is a moot issue. If you remove it and display it separately, you always leave a little doubt as to the creditibility of the paperwork. There is no direct link between the vehicle and the tank sticker.

          Dick,

That's not quite true. If you are fortunate enough to own a '71 (at a specific date of manufacture) or a '72 model. There is a correlation indeed.

The Corvette Order Copy sheet would be an extremely important piece of factory documentation for the 1971 model. Not so important for 1972, since the VIN plate denotes the engine option of the car from the factory.

Aren't many of the build sheets visable w/LR tire removed? Not to read, but to at least verify that there is one and perhaps the condition could be subjectively judged as to whether it was original.

What I did on my '67 was drop the tank with the sticker still on it and took pictures of the tank with the sticker next to my car with the license plate, which I still have and then another with my business card. I must have taken 20 pictures to remove most if not all of the doubt. PT

My tank sticker was removed by the previous owner. He did take a picture of it on the tank. He then wrote a letter to Noland Adams asking about info on the tank sheet. At least I have the tank sheet and all the letters to and from Noland.

I've decided to keep my tank sticker where it belongs - on the tank (of my 67). The tank has never been down but the sticker is easily readable. I have a ton of other documentation anyway so the tank sticker is just icing on the cake.

I think the tank sticker is important, but should just be considered as part of all the documentation available for a particular car. Hopefully there's a POP, window sticker, dealer invoice, etc. for the car, too. Each piece looks better if there are other pieces to back it up.
                    Regards,
                    Alan

On my 68, the tank sticker was in fairly good shape. I removed it, cleaned it up so it was more readible, then I put it in a big Zip-Lock bag, and duct taped it (the Zip Lock bag) back on the top of the tank. I figured this is where a tank sticker needs to be and the ZipLock bag will protect it.

I don't understand removing a tank sticker, then putting it in a ziploc bag duct taped to the top of the tank? If it's already in a bag, why duct tape teh bag to the tank?

I needed to replace my old fuel tank with a new Quanta fuel tank. I removed the tank sticker from the old tank. The sticker came off OK, except the glue spot where the sticker was stuck to the old tank, did tear and resulted in a small piece of the old sticker being left behind, but all the critical information was on the sticker that was removed. I cleaned the sticker up best as I could, and then put the sticker into the zip lock bag (for protection). Then I taped the zip lock bag onto the top of my new tank and installed the new tank. The tank build sticker will not continue to ride around in my car, as before, but it'll be protected from further degradation in it's new plastic covering.

I agree with Alan, that while the "tank sticker" is a nice item to have, it is just one component of documentation. Especially, when the sticker is not in place on the original gas tank.

Once the sticker is removed from the original gas tank, I would think it should be preserved in the best manner possible and included with any other documentation and receipts related to the car's history. If the car is a highly optioned high horsepower car and the "tank sticker" is the only piece of documentation available, I would suggest having the removal of the sticker photographed and witnessed. If the owner is an NCRS member, he/she might reach out to a local chapter to offer the removal of the sticker as a tech session/clinic and obtain the confirmation of the sticker coming from the car in question.
