    1962 Pittman arm

Does anyone know what size the nut is the holds the pittman arm on? Also is the washer a flat washer or a lock washer?
    Thanks
    Terry

I believe it's 1-5/16", and uses a split lock washer.

Thanks John, I seem to have misplaced it somehow, I'm blaming it on the gremlins that live in my garage!

I think you're thinking of the 63-82 nut which was 1-5/16" across the flats. That nut was 7/8-14 thread size.

The 53-62 nut was 3/4-16 thread size, 3/8" thick and 1-1/4" across-the-flats. It was originally GM #254291 and last available under GM #7809779 which is discontinued without supercession.

Although not an "official" supercession, I believe that GM #9414953 could be used for a replacement. It's the same 3/4-16 thread size and it's of GM 301M material grade. However, it's almost twice as thick as the original nut.

Thanks for the info, I'll check with my local Chevy store, originality is not a concern, not remembering where I misplaced a nut that size is a different matter.

I wish I could go junkyarding, with the price of steel up all of the junk yards in Northern Ohio have sent the old heavy cars to the furnace. If anyone knows of one in my area I would sure appreciate the where abouts!

If all else fails, McMaster-Carr #93839A840. This is a nut very similar in all respects to the original. It's a grade 8 piece. However, you'll need to buy 10, but they're less than a buck each. Don't use a hardware store nut unless you're CERTAIN it's grade 8. Most hardware store nuts of this size will be grade 2 or ungraded.
