    Air Conditioning Compressor label

Does anyone know where I can purchase a date coded compressor label for a '72 SB? Or in the alternative have my reproduction label properly daye codd?

    Jerry:

I do not know of any source for a (custom) date-coded air conditioning compressor label. My recommendation is to find someone with an old IBM electric typewriter and type in your own date. I still see a number of these typewriters in banks and credit unions, etc. I know they are still around. Many of these typewriters also have multiple font balls. Pick one that looks good, and practice a few times on a blank sheet of paper.

I am not certain of the correct date code format for 1972. Your TIM&JG should tell you. For 1967, the format was MMDDYS. Example: 032172 is March 21, 1967, second shift. On my car, the compressor label date was approximately 7 weeks before the car build date.

Take your repro to a print shop with an example of the correct date-code font, size etc. and see if they will print it for you.
With a little enginuity, ie; tape the label to an 81/2x 11 paper in just the right place and print it yourself on you own computer printer.

I have missed the opportunity to mention this a couple of times now, but better late than never: A couple of old wisened verterans told me once that if you HAVE the original compressor with the foil label, you can use a heat gun to CAREFULLY remove the label from the old compressor. I haven't tried this, but these individuals should know what they're talking about. You'll be far better off going this route than using a repro label.

The more of these compressor label threads I read, the more obvious it becomes...any repro label is a compromise that will be discovered on the judging field.
