66 BB Oil pressure gauge acting strange....

Need help fellow members..........Had my cluster out for bulb replacement and cluster repaint after 4 months. Hooked everything back up this weekend, all the lights illuminate -great. But my oil pressure gauge (80lb) upon start-up and driving goes right over to end at 80LB, then upon idling it tapers back to 60-70LBs. I know I have not driving the car since summer but if my memory is correct it usually floated around 40-50LB mark. All I did was disconnect the brass fitting at the cluster and re-connect it. Is there a step I missed, air in the line, check the other end into the block, could the gauge now be faulty?? ( please don't make me take that cluster out again)......suggestions sincerely appreciated.

How cold was it when you fired it up?

It had not been started in 4 months, car is on a charger in a very heated garage. I drove it 2-3 miles and gauge still goes all the way over to 80LB when driving and down to 60LB when idiling.....still too high comparted to what I recall. Nothing else done to the oil line except un hook it and re-connect it, except the neddle was moved around a bit by hand when I cleaned the gauge face to get the dust/lint off it before re-installing the glass cluster..........

        Same oil pressure gauge?

        Engine at operating temperature?

High oil pressure at cold temperature is not unexpected.

Low oil pressure while running is VERY bad no matter what temperature.

Are you using the same type of oil in the engine?
