Need high hp harmonic balancer

I am restoring a 1959 Corvette with the 270 hp 283. I can not find an original or original looking high hp harmonic balancer. If anyone has one or knows of one please email me at: torashan@satx.rr.com

ALso need a 1959 side cover for a T-10 transmission.

The balancer of original configuration that you seek is VERY hard to find. Primarily, this is because it was originally used for so few applications. So, there were never many cars originally fitted with this balancer to become later "donors". Also, the original configuration balancer was available in SERVICE for a relatively short period before being superceded by a differently configured (but equally functional) balancer.

I bought my high HP (270hp) balancer from Goat Hill Classics at Bloomington 2 years ago for $300. Notice I did not say ORDERED. He's got great stuff, but you must buy stuff from him in person (eye to eye) He is very undependable when you ORDER stuff from him. You need to call him and find out which shows he's going to, tell him what you want and then GO THERE. Repeat!......Don't order from him no matter what he says about it over the phone!

i gave up looking and just bought the new gm replacement. the repros i saw so far didn't look much like the original unless they improved recently.

I believe you mean this balancer with the stepped area on the backside. This was also used on the 60-61 solid lifter 348 engines. Hard to find for either application but they are out there if you know what to look for.. I recently bought this one off ebay.

Hate to bring bad tidings, but if you bought the Goat Hill version, his has 1/2" too much diameter and have NO holes in the outer ring.

Loren.....Not the one I bought from the Goat in person......Mine has holes and is the correct diameter. It sounds like he tricked you when you ordered it from him......I'll never order from him again!......Brad

i'm confused. i thought the correct 270 hp balancer #3764318 was not supposed to have the holes around the outside perimeter.

Apparently whoever he has employed to "cut" the rear step metal has also been asked to reduce the outer diameter down to 6"; better, but still no cigar. To quote from the blueprint:

" 1/2 dia. drill as req'd to balance - .25 MAX. DEEP
in front face." (CAPS ADDED.)

He "tricked" me right up to when I opened the package. The refund check cashed. No further orders placed.

I'll try to get some decent pics tomorrow. No guarantees as I'm no photographer and my camera isn't exactly top of the line.

I remember that I had some pics and other info on the balancer on file from another forum. A friend was looking for the same balancer so I sent him the pics of my original from a 60 335 hp FE code 348. He sent the pics to Ron at Damper Dudes who made one from a 350 balancer for a very reasonable price and very fast turn around. I don't have the dimensions handy but will try to get more detail tomorrow.
The attached pics show the spec hi perf 283/348 balancer on the left versus the standard 283/348 balancer on the right. Due to the limits on number of pics I will follow with another post with the new balancer made by Damper Dudes.

Thanks to all for the information. I am still looking for the balancer and am going to a big swap meet near San Antonio this weekend where I willl look some more.

If you want a good picture of both the low and high hp balancers, go to page 74 in the 1958-60 NCRS Judging Manual.
