Several months ago I read a thread about where to have carbs rebuilt. I was almost ready to box mine up and ship it to one of the recommended shops when I heard about "The Carb Shop" in Costa Mesa, CA.
I dropped it off and less than a week later I had it on my doorstep. I put it on and presto - ran like CRAP!
I returned it and again it was returned within a week. I put it on again and presto - ran like CRAP!
Today, I drove the car (barely) to a shop (BC Carbs) in East Los Angeles. I waited (you have to know the neighborhood to understand why I waited) while they tore it apart and fixed it.
They found:
1. Choke linkage backwards - choke would not open completely.
2. Primary floats too high - flooding.
3. Internal gasket backwards - restricting internal airflow.
These are the things I saw while I watched them go over the entire carb. God only knows if there were other things wrong.
They installed it on the car, adjusted the mixture & idle and off I went.
Total cost - $100.
Live and learn.
