    Andy,
I do not know what GM has done for the museum, maybe Wendell can answer that for all of us.

Andy most museums hire a curator that is a disinterested party. Less temptation for items to walk.

Art Armstrong and Wendell could address the GM financial contributions, but to my knowledge very little, if any, cash donations have been made by them. Their contributions are "in kind" contributions such as library materials, display materials, etc.

i believe the corvettes that NCM raffles off are not given by GM but bought by the NCM

            Re: NCM/NCRS Relationship

Back when the car guys were running the museum Chevrolet held some new-car introductions at the museum. While this represented no outright financial donation, it brought a bunch of badly needed publicity to the museum.
One can not measure that kind of support -- it doesn't show up on some bean counters ledger sheet, by design, but it supports the project immensely.
I suspect all kinds of similar support still goes on. Certainly NCRS supports the museum when we hold meets there, and as I recall there were financial contributions to the museum from those events.

Since the need for support of the museum is on-going, I expect those in the administration of the museum are asking -- "What have you done for me lately?" For my part there is a story on new-car delivery in The Restorer pipeline that I instigated -- including threads on St. Louis factory delivery, just to keep it appropriate to our unique perspective. Support need not always be financial, although with a building program underway money is now needed.

We need to keep the flame alive -- in whatever way we can.
            Terry

              Re: NCM/NCRS Relationship

The primary disappointment that I've always had with the NCM is the failure to provide for the archives and library in the original building. Seeing significant space devoted to "offices" and none to an archives/library left me a little "cold". I'm glad to see that an archives/library is included in the expansion, but I wonder if it's really big enough. Having an archives/library dedicated to NCRS (and, perhaps, SPECIFICALLY supported by NCRS and NCRS members) would seem to me to be a more fitting, appropriate, and permanent means of recognizing the NCRS' role in the establishment and maintenance of the museum. To ensure the relationship and the long-term preservation of the archive and library materials, I'd like to see the actual contents, in whole or part, of the archives/library the property of an NCRS foundation.

Seems like the perfect compliment to have organization and individual members get behind and support. This is something we should make happen because its NCRS members who would benefit from it, use it and have vested interest in such a resource. Call it the NCRS Archives...after all what differentiates NCRS from all other Corvette organization...bar none? NCRS developed, maintains and continues to establish the Corvette body of knowledge. No one does it...not GM, not Chevrolet nor any other national Corvette organization. NCRS would than have a permanent display.

Will there be an accessable archive in the new 'NCM' to do research on authentic memo's, diagrams, etc., etc. ?

Keep up the good work and spread the word about our beloved cars!!!

                  thanks,

Rob, the short answer to your question is yes!

The main purpose in doing the building addition is to have a library/archives as was originally planned by NCRS when the idea of a Corvette Museum was being discussed. Otherwise, we would not be going back in debt.

                    Re: NCM/NCRS Relationship

I have been a member of NCRS since 1987 with my first visit to Bowling Green and NCM Annex on our way to the National Convention in Williamsburg(1992?).
We made a donation to the NCM then as well as over the years.
We attended a few NCRS Regionals at the Museum over the years and enjoyed visiting it every time.

Later on when we started going back to the Museum on our own to attend other Corvette functions we joined the NCM as "Family" Members. We now have upgraded our membership to Lifetime" Members. Besides attending as many NCRS events as we are able to we also attend at least one or two events at the Museum.

My wife and I feel that the members of NCRS and the NCM may have different wants and needs both are very much part of our lives.

When we attend an Event such as the C5/C6 Birthday Bash in April we see many people from GM there giving talks, tips, evaluating problems, as well as bring the latest Corvettes to touch and sometimes drive.

To me the NCM and NCRS will always be linked together through the dedication and history of many NCRS members as well as all Corvette enthusiasts.

Corvettes are a way of life and the people we have met are the greatest.

Geeze rough crowd here on the NCM issues. I'm sure there will be a nice altar for NCRS when it's all said and done. You'll see a design soon enough without having to poke your finger in Wendell's chest. Geeze. I'd rather first see the NCM court sponsorship of displays or rooms/areas by Goodyear, Michelin, PPG, Lear, WD-40, Mequiars, Mid America etc whatever. We buy their stuff, they can pony up for a conference room, display, banner or ladies room or two here and there in the place. Why not. Some say don't make it commercial, I say yes bring those guys in. I just don't think people should get pushy about who gets to be where yet, the darn ground-breaking is still about a month away. Let's go party in BG and enjoy that gig and see what shakes out with the display committee later in the year before going off the deep end and quitting your membership. Good Grief.
