Yes, that is the pressure-vacuum valve seen near the bottom of your photo. It does protrude into the tank as you describe. All L1969-74 Corvette fuel tanks were originally equipped with this valve.

The question is did the tank that collapsed have the valve?

      Re: 1970 Gas Tank Collapse

      Joe,

The tank that I installed ABSOLUTELY has the vent and it is the correct tank for the car. It was installed correctly and was working fine (as far as we know) until this recent issue. As a matter of fact, the car has been on several long trips with no problems until this recent trip a week ago when the tank collapsed. My opinion is that it was working and then ceased to funtion properly due to a faulty vent.

The nice man at Quanta that refused to even talk about any compensation (free tank or shared expense) also stated that "maybe the tank is all gunked up on the top of the valve...that might explain why it wasn't working properly." This was the same guy that said it couldn't have failed and that it had to be the return line that was the problem. Yeah, right. FYI, it's a little tough to get the valve "all gunked up" if it is garaged all of the time and never gets driven in any conditions where any crap could possibly ever reach that vent. It's never even been wet up there, let alone muddy or dirty in any way, shape or form. Looks like all you boys out there with Quanta tanks better take them out once a month to dust them or they'll fail on you. This really frustrates me. I'm going to call them again.

      Thanks for all your help.
