    1955 eyes only

The JM only mentions a 55 TIN back bulb only saying the 12V logo was in the glass cover. Well!
There was a first design Tin back 12V having no logo
There was a second design Tin back 12V having the logo
There was a third design (seal beam ALL glass no Tin back) having a logo
So there were three bulbs used in 1955
First design because it looked like a 6V Tin back only had a sticker on the glass saying 12V so that a person knew which was which when replacing a bulb but also had a silver color back not black like the 6V and later 12V that had the 12V logo .

But as of now the JM dont mention this!!
The pic at the right showing a Muti-purpose-lite used as a night light when replaceing a flat tire. Just an accessory !!

                Yes & No...On Documentation

The lamps Roy mentioned as having tin back, glass front with NO emboss in the lens (either 6V or 12V) Roy got from me via eBay, representing a local RMC member of NCRS who had a few NOS in their original GM, Guide boxes. The lamps ARE as Roy stated!

Further, the original boxes had Guide stick-on labels with the PN 193192 and call out for 12-16 Volts on them. Beneath the stick-on label the box itself was printed with Guide's 196195 PN. This says there WAS an early version of the 12V, tin back/glass front Guide headlight that used the same production tooling as the 6V lamp AND shared its over the counter retail packaging using just a sticker to distinguish it.

What Roy can NOT document is WHEN this first version of the 12V Guide lamp was produced. Nor can he swear which version(s) were used on ALL Corvettes produced in 1955...

Was Chevy really the first GM vehicle to use 12V, dual beam, Guide headlights with tin back/glass lens? Something sticks in my mind about Oldsmobile's 'Rocket V8' using 12V electrical systems and they came on stream in 1953 if memory serves...

                    Correction...

A closer look at the PN printed on the original box, beneath the stick on label, using Photoshop + magnification looks more like '193165'...

{So there were three bulbs used in 1955}= I should have added ???????

Documentation NO! I know of early 55's having that bulb after I did get it from Jack a while ago by corresponding with other 55 owners around the world with early 55's. Do I say for sure I'm right NO!
So how does one confirm this?? It cant be done, like the 55 two designs of Dist I just posted ,can you document them NO! Why? Because they used the same part number.I would love to have the prints showing me the differences of the Dist. But it did happen I just showed them.
Bolts we all know have different head markings and were mixed ,used here and there. I wont to see prints or documentation , prove it to me!!!!
That is the problem , we have to relie on what me know or seen. I can fill a page with the same problem concerning many parts.
This was food for thought , nothing more, 50% of all discussion's on this forum are about just this.
So don't take what I say as the bible or the JM.

According to some old Tune-up charts that I have, 12v systems appeared on Olds, Cadillac, and some Buicks (model dependent) in 1953.
