    Possible new OPEN class

AT the Okla Chapter meeting last Sat, there was mention of possibly forming a new OPEN class. It would be open for all Corvettes and possibly have a stock and custom class.
    GREAT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I have advocated this for over 50yrs with massive rejection. It's about time NCRS has pulled their head out of the sand and finally acknowledged that a Corvette is a Corvette is a Corvette!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Over the years, I have observed so many people turned off and turned away because of the attitude that if it ain't original factory, they are not welcome.
Potentially too late for me to be an active, enthusiastic member (I'm 82 now and short on time), BUT, for whatever reason, I have maintained my NCRS membership. Maybe now it's finally worth it.
I'm guessing my 56 "Airbox" would finally be qualified.

I have NEVER, EVER had any issues with NCRS judging or categories.
My heartburn is that NCRS politely, but snoberly, ignored ANY Corvette that was not Flight quality. Over the years, the attitude has improved, but during the process, MANY possible additions to membership have been missed out on-----------many of them permanent.
As I mentioned, a Corvette is a Corvette. Other automotive hobby organizations have always had classes, and welcomed cars that were not bone stock from the factory, such as the Chevelle and 55-57 Chevy, etc, communities.
It just never made sense to me that NCRS rejected so many opportunities to add non correct Corvette owners to the group.

We have had some amazing cars in the old Concours class and I'm sure we will continue to have great cars in the new Open Class.

I think you guys are missing a more important point. A Stone Stock "Air Box" would not be
allowed in "Flight Judging" due to the NCRS rules that states>NO CAR WILL BE JUDGED WITH
SUPER RARE OPTIONS WITHOUT THE PROPER PAPERWORK THAT PROVES IT CAME THAT WAY FROM
THE FACTORY" This GM/Chevy Paperwork would have to be varified by the NCRS. My car also
fits this category. And some cars have this paperwork that DO NOT WISH TO SHARE WITH THE
NCRS FOR VARIOUS REASONS-MAINLY>PRIVACY. SO>These cars have to be judged in the
Concours program regardless if in the Stock or Modified Class. This has been discussed in detail in previous post.
Thanks-Larry P.S. My car has earned a Top Flight before this rule came about but I could
not get it judged in "Flight Judging" again.

I could not give a rats behind about correctness, originality or documentation. I clearly remember when the 1953 models were introduced. COOL!!! Then, in 57, when the FI Corvettes were introduced, they were the baddest animal on the planet, according to the "big boys". I was in the 8th grade and the moment I saw one (at the State Fair in Okla City, summer 57), I HAD TO HAVE ONE!!!! Nothing has changed. My desire was to have a serious hotrod in 57 Corvette skin. Got one now.
By 1973 I was out of college and making enough money to buy a cheap (in those days) 56 Corvette (same car as a 57).
IN 1973 THERE WAS NO NCRS. Thus, NO guidelines. So, I built it my way. It's mostly a cloned Airbox car, HD brakes, suspension, 4sp, posi, column tach, etc. It's not the correct color, BUT it is a Corvette color.
In 78, I became aware of NCRS and was interested in joining--------------THEY HAD NO INTEREST WHATSOEVER IN MY "HOME BUILT" Corvette. And the snobby attitude continued for many years. In time, NCRS began to soften and realize they had missed the boat by ostracizing non-correct cars. And as I mentioned earlier, NCRS has finally seen the light. But hell, 50 yrs have gone by now, and I have little time remaining to enjoy the group (if at all).

Like Tom stated, at our age, little time remaining.
                        Would have been fun class.

Sorry; A little off topic. I see now the NCRS has change some wording on your profiles in
the "Achieved Car Awards". I do not like this at all. They are trying to change HISTORY.

Larry, No one is trying to change history. There would have been an enormous amount of work for the IT team to build a completely new class. Since the Open Class is a newer version of the Concours class, the decision was made to alter the current version and change the name. There was no way to get around the history issue. We were aware this would happen and that some people may be upset. As always, people ask for change, then complain when it happens. I'm sure you can see, this Open Class is a great improvement over the Concours class.

When and if you sell your car, I'm sure you can teach the new owner about the History of the Concours class and how it evolved into the Open Class. You'll even have the awards to prove it!

If you have any additional questions or complaints, I'm happy to answer them. Joe

This is the first I've heard about the change from "Concours" to "Open" class...terrific and logical change. Never did like the name "Concours"...it was very confusing for many as it didn't, truly, describe the type of car being judged in that class. I knew there had been discussions over the "Concours" name but wasn't aware there was going to be a name change. Kudos to those involved. Makes much more sense, now. Thanks for listening!!
