Tripower Base Tabs Breakage

The 67-69 tripower air cleaner base tabs to bolt it to the outer carbs seems like a bad design. My last car one tab was already broke off and I noticed my current one a tab has a lot of play. Seems like a bad design not to have those tabs sitting flush on the carbs. Or am I missing something? I have not seen any mention of a spacer so when you tighten the bolt even slightly it starts to bend the tab down since it's not making direct contact with the bolt hole area of the carb.

Better question is how do you fix it? I have a base with a broken tab too.

It's spot welded on so if you're lucky enough to have the tab you could probably get it repaired. However if you choose to bolt it on the same thing may occur again. I have the correct bolts but am hesitant to bolt it down since I noticed one of the tabs is loose. And I'm afraid if I don't tighten them enough they may vibrate out.
