I'm about to install my steering column. Have successfully dry run it with the exhaust manifold, generator, dipstick and dipstick tube, removed and the LH dash insulator and e-brake handle loose. But installation of the hard rubber seal that seals the mast jacket to the front of dash is difficult. There is a nubbin that secures the directional signal bowl that interferes with the close fitting seal. I'm afraid that if I try to drive it down the column it'll damage the seal. I have protective masking tape on the column. That isn't helping the seal installation either. Comments? Help?

Frank,
The old trick on rubber bushings/grommets/moldings is to lightly lubricate with dish soap, which will not harm the rubber.
