    1966 Telescopic steering part search

I'm rebuilding a 66 telescopic steering column which is missing the plastic covering for the turn signal ribbon cable. It is referred to as the Directional Wiring Cover in the GM exploded diagram.

I found the attached picture which I assume shows an original and its position on the column.

This part is reproduced for the standard column, but the one for the telescopic column is quite different and I have not found a source for one.

Anyone have either a source for one or a substitute solution? I know the telescopic one is longer than the one for standard column so I have two of the standard column ones on order thinking maybe I could make one telescopic cover from two standard column covers!!

    Thanks,
    Don 65-66 tele column 6.jpg

Don: What is the number of the part you ordered (Paragon number, Or GM number, or Corvette Central number)? Also, do you know the GM number for the telescopic column version?

      Tom,

The ZIP part # for the standard wire cover is SC-737. Looks like most all the vendors carry this one. Corvette Central part # 562049.

I have not been able to find the GM number for either the standard or tele. I have an old dealer parts catalog and if either of these are in it, I couldn't find them.

Don, The info may be in the prints. See this thread for the pdf's....

Edit... I can see the plastic sleeve but no part number is shown. (52/53 Pdf's)

P.S. Ignore the link below. I cannot delete it.

Under SPECIFICATIONS on the Corvette Central website, they say the part you bought is a repro of GM 3841555

Another site shows a different looking item, for non-corvette tilt columns?

Yes, the diagrams show the sleeve/cover. They do help though. They don't show the length of the sleeve, but I can tell that it is up in the bell even when the column is extended and where the other end fits. Hopefully I can take two of the standard column covers and make something that will work.

              Thanks,
              Don

Don, I searched for one of these for several years with no luck. I believe the overall length will be ~15” and is taped to the wiring harness at the lower end. The standard steering looks (from pictures) to be the same plastic extrusion, but closer to 10” with the hole at the lower end to attach to the column. The standard column cover is really tight in the escutcheon, which makes me wonder if it is the same extrusion.
