    John,

Mike McCagh snagged the last of some NOS tiger stripes gaskets for the 40083 pump from an eBay seller recently. I contacted that seller and he has no more and no idea where to get anymore. Nor do I.

Just curious, are you thinking of fabricating the tiger stripes gasket? Or a gasket that will function, but without the tiger stripes.

FYI - I understand that you want to send your fuel pump to a reputable shop for a rebuild. Your choice - but.... I can tell you that it is not all that difficult and I believe rebuild kits are available. Either way - it may be to your benefit to know what is all involved in the rebuild of a 40083 pump. See the attached - good stuff. For the record - I am not the author of this article - I just happen to have a copy "in my files".... Enjoy.
      Ed,

The article by Brian McIntyre that you posted is helpful, but there is another article on the same topic written by Joe Ciaravino in the Corvette Restorer, Volume 37, Number 1. I don’t know the year. Joe’s article has several important, additional tips and cautions that Brian’s article doesn’t mention. Things can go wrong if you try to restore a used 40083 pump and you are not aware of the cautions that Joe describes.

I’m guessing that Vinnie Peters can provide a copy of Joe Ciaravino‘s article to anyone who asks.

My thought is the tiger stripes could be applied to a pulsator gasket made of material that will not harden when exposed to modern fuels. I am also working on the diaphragm gasket which has the same hardening issues, disassembly of the two plates with a way to reassemble with a new gasket. Eliminating the need to replace any "hard" parts when the gaskets fail. Most of us don't drive these cars a lot so it's the rubber that is failing in these pumps.
If rebuild kits were available none of this would be necessary.

Hence the reason I'm doing my home work and finding out what parts are available and who are the experts. This car will be driven long distances and it has to be right.

          Gary,

Thanks for the memory jog regarding Joe's article. I dis read Joe's article back when it came out in the DL Magazine, need to dig it up again for reference.
