Re: Fuel Additives for High Compression Engines

Thank you very much to all who've contributed to the discussion, but I am compelled to return to my original opening question regarding the "VR Racing Fuel Additive 2855." How good is it and are there any equally effective brands to choose from that raise the octane rating?

Don't know about VR 2855, but Post #6 about Octane Supreme is right on. It will raise octane significantly..........but contains tetraethyl lead to do so. I have used this for years when I first owned my 67 327/350 HP car.

I would search on-line about the VR and see what shows up. Over the years other chemical compounds have shown up that can compete with TEL without as many side effects. But the Octane Supreme will work for you.

EDIT: A quick search for the components in the VP 2855 showed aniline and manganese. A further search for aniline provided the following technical paper. https://www.acfa.org.sg/newsletters/...oline-blending. Half way down the paper showed impact on fuel octane at various aniline concentrations. Manganese was evaluated and used during WW 2 era as a substitute for TEL in fighter aircraft fuels. It MAY work for you, but I would recommend either using the Octane Supreme (which I know works well) or blending in racing fuel or av gas into you car gasoline. Aniline also has some downside on engine life at higher concentrations.

I am not certain that you need the additive(s), but you can try them out for yourself and then report back to us on which one is most effective. For me, I found my car liked a mix of 93 non-ethanol pump gas and VP 110 racing fuel. For the amount of miles I drove, cost and hassle were not issues. It is a hobby. My car could also be tuned for running plain 93 octane pump gas. But it ran best with the fuel mixture. Again, this is supposed to be a fun hobby.......so do some testing and report back.
