I just replaced my master cylinder in my 66 / it had the 67 type master cylinder with the dual pistons . It was giving my poor braking so I replaced it and all is currently great / what I would like to know is what the 2 letter code on the master I took out means the code was CZ . Any info would be appreciated . thanks Jeff

Re: 67 brake master cylinder ID
Jeff,
A "correct" '67 master cylinder for standard and power brakes would have "DC" stamped into the forward machined area. Have no idea what the "CZ" is on yours.

Re: 67 brake master cylinder ID
As I mentioned in a previous post, the embossed broadcast code ("CZ" in your case) may be irrelevant if the master cylinder has been through a commercial rebuilding operation. What's more important for you is the casting number. The 1" bore 1967+ master cylinder carried casting number 5455509. That's the one you want to use to ensure braking characteristics similar to your original master cylinder. All 1966 Corvettes, standard or power brake, were equipped with a 1" bore master cylinder.
There is another master cylinder which is externally the same as 5455509 but with a 1-1/8" bore. That master cylinder carries a casting number of 5460346. You could use it but the braking characteristics will be somewhat different than your original 1" master cylinder. It might not be very noticeable, though. In Appreciation of John Hinckley- Top
