    SEMs Interior dye_right color_ do's & don'ts

Just had the seats reupholstered. The rest of the interior needs to be re-dyed to match. The door panels, dash & console are in good shape just the wrong color to match the 411 metallic blue, bright blue, not 100% clear on the color name. PO changed the interior to one of the other 68 Blues.

Interested in hearing about the success or failure of the process.
Any do's/don'ts, using the plastic prep, adhesion promoter, and top coat??

The windshield is staying in so I imagine the dash will be fun.

Has anyone re-dyed a 411 code interior on a 68? What color code did you use? I can't seem to find that color. I'm going call SEMs later today. Maybe give Al Knoch a call too.

Don't even think of doing it without pulling everything out.
The upper dash is not difficult to remove if you first remove the windshield header and then A-pillar trim.

As with any painting job, stick with one brand. And, preparation is the key.
I used the paints from Corvette America / Top Flight on Dad's 72 last year.
There are different products for hard vs soft plastics (vinyl), and I did use the recommended prep products with good results.

Having the parts lay on some saw horses or similar for painting them will work to your advantage.

My parts were easy. It's a black interior.

I tried red dye for my '63 door panels a few years back and it had a flat finish and was a lighter red (almost dark pink) so I am going to try a different source for my next attempt.

From what I'm to understand, of you have a good paint house they can mix colors for a better match. Ill bet Al Knoch will have some good info?

The interior guy that is going to fix some of the mistakes of a local Corvette shop actually referred me (today) to a guy who will take a look at painting them to match. All of the trim and radio panels are painted to meet the judging guidelines.
                Thanks David!
