What rivets are used with these shields? and which side of the body do the rivet head reside?

Looking at your original picture, it appears they are like the rest of the riveted in brackets. Rivet head inside of car.

Mid Dec 1956 assembled 57 does not have them.

FYI - BAT photo is from '57 VIN #10 which was an original 2x4 car fitted with FI by engineering.
